Before Charice, there was a Banig; Josephine “Banig” Roberto was once an international child singing sensation back in the 80’s. She was the first and only Filipino who won in Star Search as Junior Vocalist Champion in 1989. Filipinos were once crazy over her but eventually forgotten. She disappeared in the Philippine entertainment scene after recording a few songs . Apparently she moved back to United States and further her career as a Pop and R&B singer. She released a few albums in United States and received good response. Banig writes her own songs and is really good at it. She is such a talented human being!
Banig is finally back in Manila, after more than a decade, to release her Philippine album which she wrote and co-produced with her sister Jojo. The album will showcase her original work which will feature both English and Tagalog songs plus some revivals.
I have read a bunch of comments in Youtube on Charice videos looking for Banig. To all her Filipino fans and supporters, your queries and long wait are finally over. She will soon release her album in her home country and will perform in front of her Filipino audience. There is no exact date set yet but it will be coming soon. Watch and support her Philippine come back.
