Ryan Agoncillo To Host Pinoy Fear Factor

Ryan Agoncillo, the other half-to-be of Judy Ann Santos, will host the Filipino version of the  grossiest show I have ever seen, Fear Factor. Although  I said the show was gross I couldn’t help but watch it (back when it was shown on local TV).  Since they added Extreme to Fear Factor and removed it from the local network,  haven’t seen a single episode of it.

I like the stunt challenges but I usually close my eyes when people had to swallow a Madagascar hissing cockroach, transfer slimy earthworms from one bowl to another, eat animal penises, or lay down in a hole filled with thousands of rats. Gosh! I told my self, I will not risk my life  for $50,000.  That amount will not cover my hospital bills if I get an allergic reaction or any kind of infections after swallowing those nasty stuff or the nervous breakdown that I get after dealing with the vicious rodents. I would rather jump on a 30 storey building than deal with those critters. But then again, I was just a viewer so no harm done.

I couldn’t believe Filipinos are up for this challenge but If 2 million Pesos cash and 2.5 million pesos worth of house and lot are at stakes ($40K-$50 K), it will not surprise me if the line on the audition was from Manila to Baguio.

The show will be taped in Argentina and the twelve contestants were already chosen. Six men and six women are ready to face their fears. The challenges were not mentioned but Agoncillo promised that it will be tough ones.  The contestants’ description were revealed but not their names.

They are:

1. The Basketball Hunk – a man who stopped being a hard court warrior of frustration; has fear of heights (batophobia)

2. The Lover Boy – a man who almost lost his life for  being a womanizer; has fear of grossy food

3. Struggling Tondo Dad – a market porter who will do everything to provide for his family; has fear of heights

4. Funny Australian – a jolly man who experienced descrimination in Australia; he has a fear of roaches (entomophobia)

5. Papalicious Chef -  a wealthy man who wants to conquer his fears

6. Promding Veterinarian – a man who did everything to fulfill his dream

7. Glam Goddess – a popular host and model; has fear of roaches and rodents

8. Hot Momma – a young mom; has fear of water (hydrophobia)

9. New Miss Body Beautiful – young head of the family; has fear of snakes (ophidiophobia)

10. Party Bombshell – the life of the party; has fear of water

11. Daredevil Chick – a woman who turned away from showbiz to finish studies; has fear of the unknown

12. Flawless of Dagat-Dagatan – a woman who belongs to a poor family; has fear of snakes.

Good luck to all contestants and Ryan Agoncillo himself! I wish I can see the Pinoy version of Fear Factor but I am wishing too much.

Deal or No Deal Philippines Season 3

The big US hit Deal or No Deal is also huge game show in the Philippines. The Philippine version is called Kapamilya Deal or No Deal. The show will start its season 3 tomorrow (July 28th) with the pot at stake at P2 Million (approximately $47K).

The original Deal or No Deal was held in the Philippines (aired on May 5) and was seen worldwide as part of “Deal or No Deal Around the World” special. Host Howie Mandel with Kapamilya Deal or No Deal host Kris Aquino had a great time doing that special. I am not really crazy with Deal or No Deal but I did watch that special (Philippine episode only) just to see Kris Aquino and Philippines once again.

The  Kapamilya Deal or No Deal show will come back with a brand new look and hotter 26k models (case carriers). They even added a drum and bugle corps called Parokya ni Banker (The Banker’s Church), to add more noise excitement to the show.

When the Deal or No Deal game show debuted in US, my husband told me that the show copied it from “Pera o Bayong” (Money or Basket), a segment of a Philippine noon time show Magandang Tanghali Bayan (Good Afternoon People, abbreviated  into MTB) that was aired on ABS-CBN from 1998 to 2005. I died laughing when I heard what he said because I never thought or remembered “Pera o Bayong” or even see the similarity of both games.

I don’t think Deal or No Deal copied it from “Pera o Bayong” but since my husband mentioned it,  I realized that the game concept was similar indeed.

Wow, Asians do really know how to judge and pick the right guys. These guys are what we call the Vitamin A (good for the eyes). I am just wondering who else made the top 10. My source is kind of limited and the link was no longer available.

Ugly Betty La Fea

Philippine television has done it again; produced another teleseries copied from adapted from foreign television. I Love Betty La Fea is the new comedy series recently aired on ABS-CBN network starring Bea Alonzo as Betty.

According to abs-cbnNEWS.com, it took 2 hours to transform Bea Alonzo to  a geeky and ugly look of  Betty. DUH! Why did they pick a pretty girl in the first place?

There’s a reason why the beautiful Bea Alonzo was picked for the role. Just knowing that undeneath Betty’s face is a lovely young lady will trick will inspire the viewers to watch the show. For the people who are not aware of the plot may think that Betty may somehow transform into a beautiful face of  Bea Alonzo (you know, the female version of the The Frog Prince). I am sorry to disappoint you guys.

Before ABS-CBN copied adapted the series from the Colombian Telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea, ABC (American Broadcasting Company, aka Disney) launched their version first in 2006 entitled Ugly Betty. It was a big hit and is still is. A fresh face America Ferrera starred the series as Betty Suarez. She is not as pretty as Bea Alonzo but she certainly carried the role well. Hopefully Bea Alonzo will be able to match if not surpass  America Ferrera’s Betty charisma.

I don’t know how long  it took to transform America Ferrera ’s face to Betty Suarez but I am pretty sure it didn’t take as long as Bea Alonzo’s transformation to Betty La Fea .

Mercedes Cabral: Who is She?

Mercedes Cabral, the new face of Philippine showbiz who won the online voting “The Most Beautiful Actress” who walked the red carpet of the recently concluded 61st Cannes Film Festival. She has the typical Filipina [exotic] beauty that captured every foreign eyes.

Korean director Park Chan-wook, responsible for the ever famous and riveting The Vengeance Trilogy (2002 Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, 2003 Oldboy, and 2005 Sympathy for Lady Vengeance ), casted Mercedes Cabral on his new film Thirst. Mercedes will “play as a Filipina of wife of  a Korean national who is passionate about their love affair” (Starmometer).

Mercedes Cabral was introduced in the film “Serbis” (At Your Service) in 2008. The film was nominated for Golden Palm Award in the 61st Cannes Film Festival (the reason why she was on that red carpet). Although the movie was internationally recognized, it was not received well by the Filipino audience.

I haven’t seen the movie myself but peeking at the trailer below makes me want to watch it.

I have seen two of Park Chan-wook’s trilogy (Old Boy and Lady Vengeance) and they were rather intriguing and yet interesting and was masterfully done. The Serbis trailer kind of remind me of Park’s films, hence, I  will not mind watching it [Serbis].

For Mercedes Cabral, congratulations on your debut in both Philippine and Korean films. Hopefully everything will go well. I have yet to see your talent, I am pretty sure I will not be disappointed.
